I’m Ruby Byrne, an astrophysicist and radio astronomer.

I am an NSF postdoctoral fellow at Caltech, where I study radio astronomy and observational cosmology. My research focuses on developing and operating exquisitely sensitive radio telescopes that can reveal clues about our universe’s early history.

Apart from my research, I am committed to promoting inclusivity and equity in astrophysics through my work as a mentor, educator, public speaker, and activist. I am proud to be part of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Outlist.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, I studied physics and math as an undergraduate at Macalester College before earning my Ph.D. in physics from the University of Washington, where I worked with Miguel Morales. I joined the Astronomy Department at Caltech as a postdoc in 2021, and in 2023 I was awarded the NSF Astronomy and Astrophysics Postdoctoral Fellowship.
